EVERY FISH TELLS HIS STORY:
Horse mackerel - a taxi across the seas

Saving our seas it’s up to all of Us. EUROJERSEY supports WWF Italy in growing public awareness with the need to buy responsibly, with a preference for fish products in order to preserve fishing stock of our sea.

EVERY FISH TELLS HIS STORY

“I’m a gregarious fish, with a long, streamlined body: they call me horse because a legend says that smaller species of fish can ride on my back over great distances.”.

What I eat
Crustaceans, shrimps, calamari and small fish.

Where I come from
I live in waters from 100 m to 200 m deep, in the north-eastern Atlantic and the western Mediterranean.

What you can do
Horse mackerel is caught with lines, longliners, purse seines and bottom trawls. Choose mackerel caught in the north-eastern Atlantic by means of pole-and-line and handline fishing.
