Made Green in Italy

Made Green in Italy is a voluntary national scheme for communicating the environmental footprint of products.

The quantification of the environmental performance of Sensitive® Fabrics was possible thanks to a PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) study conducted, verified and validated by an independent third party.

Sensitive® Fabrics and the functional unit

Sensitive® Fabrics articles are made up of elastomer and polyamide (which can be as it is or recycled) and are used by customers for the manufacturing of garments in the underwear, swimwear, sportswear and ready-to-wear sectors. The articles can be categorised as follows:

In accordance with the reference CPR (CPR of woven fabrics of synthetic yarns – excluding those of high tenacity or made of flakes or the like – dyed and/or printed [NACE 13.20.31] version 1), the functional unit was defined as 1 sqm of warp-knitted fabric of synthetic fibre Sensitive® Fabrics by specific grammage. The reference year is 2022.

The PEF study and benchmark comparison

The study was carried out using a LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology defined by the European Union, i.e. by calculating the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF). The study was developed according to the above-mentioned reference CPRs and was subjected to verification by Certiquality (third-party verification body). The software used for modelling the environmental impact results is SimaPro 9.5 and the method used in the calculation phase is Environmental Footprint 3.1. The study is defined as “cradle to gate” as the use and end-of-life phases are not included.

For each of the 8 processing operations, impacts were calculated for all 16 categories foreseen by the PEF methodology, taking into account those considered most relevant within the CPRs, i.e. climate change, resource use: fossil and water. After comparing the results with the reference benchmarks identified within the CPRs, it emerges that all Sensitive® Fabrics analysed fall into CLASS A.
